No games, but lots of participation.
Your Club Update
January 15, 2020

The calm before the storm

Well, we're still waiting for the various leagues to start up, but I've certainly noticed more activity around the club, as all of our teams get back into the swing of things. We're well into planning for our big boxing night, and have a treat in store thanks to our sponsor for the big Camogie Semi-Final. Read on.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

"Boxing at Vins" - First training session complete

The first training session for the "Boxing At Vins" event was carried out Monday last. Thanks to everyone who turned up and survived it. I took part myself and wasn't sure I'd finish session 1. We soldier on. No chance of me fighting mind, I'll have an event to be reporting on. Great start, great atmosphere. I'll start profiling our boxers in the upcoming newsletters so you can decide who you'd like to support on the night.

This week's Lotto

Ah, I'm morto. I don't have this week's lotto. Apologies as it hasn't come through to me at the time of writing. Sure look, I'll put both results in next weeks newsletter.  This fair?

Operation Transformation 2020 - Super start

Very impressed to see a massive turnout for the Operation Transformation Walk which also began last Monday. We had over 90 people take part; let's see if we can break the 100! Fancy joining in? - simply come along to the club at 7:15 on Monday or Wednesday nights. We'll be hosting this through January and February.  Also please feel free to bring your friends or neighbours and people of all ages. This is not limited to club members, and there's no cost to take part.

Good luck, local schools with lots of Vinnies players

Two local schools, who are chockers with Vinnies members are in top-flight action this week. We wish them both luck. And if anyone is around, why not head out and give them a bitr of support:
Dominican College, Griffith Avenue take on St Mary's Naas in the Senior A Dublin Colleges Camogie final on Friday. That's on in Naomh Mearnog, Portmarnock at 1:30pm. (No, I've no idea why a Kildare school is in a Dublin competition!).
Tomorrow, Thursday sees Ardscoil Rís compete in the U18 Dublin Colleges A Hurling Final. That's on in Abbotstown, with throw in at 1:00pm.
We wish both local schools all the best.

New membership system in place

The club will be using a new system for both membership management and communications for next year. The system is provided by ClubZap. This includes a mobile app which can be used by everyone to manage their membership, and recieve information on individual teams, etc. The ClubZap app is available for iPhone in the App store or Android in the Google Play Store. Hopefully, you'll have received a renewal link from Club Zap.

2020 Memberships are now open for renewal

Membership renewal has been opened up and you can pay your membership online through ClubZap. Pricing and payment page available here. If you've already paid, we thank you for your prompt response.

Junior Hurlers - Valiant but it wasn't to be our day

Another great outing to Kileedy GAA for the Junior B Hurling Leinster Final; thanks again to those who made the big trip - great to see such a good support, particularly as it was a replay.
The game got off to a rocky start with Loughrey having the best of the action. At one point we were 9 points down, and I have to admit, I thought it was too big a hill to climb.  Our lads came out all guns blazing in the second half and produced a super display, possibly helped by a strong tail wind, which had been a hindrance in the first half. 14 minutes in to the second half we had closed the gap to 2 and we started to dream. We really were in control.  For the second time in two games, Loughrey had a man dismissed (this time a straight red), and the game looked like ours for the taking. But credit to Loughrey, who dug deep, winning by 2 in the end. Final score was 1-14 to 0-15. Our own Grainne McKinney was at the game and has published some great photos on facebook.
As a supporter, I'd say the lads can hold their heads high. A great display, but just pipped.
As it turns out, we're still in the competition, and we've a Junior B All-Ireland Semi Final to look forward to.  The Munster side of this competiion has not yet been decided, as like our game it too went to a replay.  This means that the semi final is currently down for January 26th at 2pm in Killeedy versus the Munster winner.
Now. Why is the 26th in my head....

All Ireland Camogie Semi Final - 26th January

I don't want to overstate this but out biggest Camogie game in 21 years takes place on January 26th in MacDonagh Park (Eire Óg), Nenagh. Throw in is 2:00pm. I'll put a supporters bus on sale as soon as we have it organised. This promises to be an epic encounter, and we'll need to bring support in serious numbers. So.. how about a bit of an incentive...

Semi-Final Hospitality, thanks to Bank of Ireland

As you know, Bank of Ireland are the club sponsors, and have been great to us not just in terms of their sponsorship support, but also at local level be it providing ice creams for mini-leagues, or sponsoring our team of the month initiative, or supporting various team fund raisers.
When they realised that we were into an All-Ireland Semi Final, they immediately offered to provide hospitality on the day of the game.
So, all St Vincents supporters are invited to Bank of Ireland, Nenagh at 12:45 for a bite to eat and a cup of tea courtesy of our sponsor on the 26th! I know where the supporters bus will be stopping!
Nice one. Thanks, Bank of Ireland.

Are you a recent "drifter" ?

Did you or one of your family used to play for Vincents? As we start to consider the new season, we're looking to reach out to anyone who's drifted away in recent times. We know how it feels, the longer you leave it, the more it may feel like it is difficult to return. But we want you back! We're always looking to add numbers to our teams, and we welcome newcomers, and people who've drifted away alike. If you know anyone who needs a nudge, please let them know they'd be welcome back. If you want to return, drop me a mail, and i'll make sure the correct mentor gets in touch.

This Weekend's Fixtures

The club leagues haven't started back yet, so there's no games this weekend. I expect it'll be another couple of weeks before we'll have games to talk about.

Thanks to Natalie L'Estrange who snapped an action shot of the boxers mid-training. As I struggled through the sit ups one thing was going through my mind
