Suprisingly, a fair bit to talk about

No games, but training goes on. So, if you drop to the club most evenings, there's plenty of activity; all socially distanced, non contact, but activity all the same. I think at this point, many people are counting their lucky stars and glad that the children are still able to get out into the fresh air. Once again, many thanks to all mentors, and players for your positive attitude and commitment during this really, really weird time.
As it happens, despite the lack of games, I've still a few annoucements this week, so please read on.
And don't forget: keep an eye on our social channels Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, if there's anything to chat about, I'll get it out there.

Club Gear Ordering - Ends this Saturday!

In lieu of a club gear ordering night, McKeever who supply our traning and leisure wear have set up a dedicated page to order all available gear.
Note the page is only live until October 17, as all orders must then go for manufacturing. Don't say I didn't warn ya!

This years AGM will of course be different to previous years. The AGM will be held via Google Meet. This is an online meeting platform. The AGM will occur on 19th November 2020. I'll publish official notice of the meeting when it is available. A couple of things you may want to consider:
1. The AGM is open to all members, however we ask if you wish to attend that you register at this link.
2. Every one who is registered will be sent an invite link a couple of days before the AGM, along with a soft-copy of executive comittee reports. This is to ensure that all attendees at the AGM are members.
3. Any member who does not wish to attend, but wishes to read the executive committee reports will be able to view the reports at the club office (of course, subject to any Covid restrictions which may be in force)
4. I'll notify you once procedures for submission of motions and voting are put in place.

Seeking expressions of interest for the role of Senior Hurling Manager
|

|
|
|
| |
It is with a heavy heart that we've been informed that our current senior hurling manager, Cathal Fallon has called it a day. We thank Cathal for a wonderful 3 years at the helm. Prior to maanaging the team, Cathal was involved in coaching the senior hurlers and also worked with the senior camogie teams. It's not an understatement to say Cathal had put in a very long stint, and deserves a break.
Expressions of interest for the position of Senior Hurling Manager are now being sought. Interested parties can e-mail Niall Lanigan, Adult Games Director at adultgamesdirector@stvincentsgaa.ie or they can approach any memeber of the executive committee. Expressions of interest should be received not later than Friday 23rd October.

Each year, as we get towards the end of the season, we always end up with a number of mentor and manager places to fill; This occurs at juvenile and adult teams, for both boys and girls. Filling these positions is often left to games directors to ask individuals if they would consider a role. So, how about we turn this around for once?
Maybe you've finished playing in the last couple of years and are missing those days. Or perhaps, you coached at juvenile and hadn't considered taking an adult team? Maybe you haven't thought about it in in many years. Well, now is your time! If you think you'd like to help out with a team drop me a mail and I'll ensure that the correct games director gets in touch to discuss options.

From St Vincents, Co. Dublin to Kilmaine, Co. Mayo
|

Club member John Gunnigan dropped me a note to tell you about a couple of ex-Vincents lads. I was going to summarise, but frankly, I can't put it better myself. John says:
"Here's a snippet you might want to include in the club notes, which relates to the rather prosaic topic of the Mayo Junior football final last weekend. The Junior title was won by South Mayo club Kilmaine, who've been striving to get out of the Junior ranks for a number of years and they finally succeeded this time, beating Kilmeena by a point in the final last Saturday evening.
On the panel for Kilmaine this year were Pat Kelly and Brian Maloney, who, of course, played major roles for St Vincents in the All-Ireland winning campaign of 2008. Both eventually transferred back to Kilmaine and continued to line out for the club year after year. Pat was injured on and off this summer and so played no part in Saturday's final but Brian came off the bench with ten minutes to go and he provided the vital assist for the point that would prove to be the title-winning score. Not bad going for a player who made his Championship debut for Mayo as far back as 2002 and who lined out for the county in the 2004 All-Ireland final."
Congratulations to Pat and Brian, from all in St Vincents. And thanks John for letting me know!

Recipient of the 2020 Louise Lynch Memorial Bursary announced
|

Congratulations to Junior Camogie player, Isabel Sweeney who is this year's recipient of the Louise Lynch Memorial Bursary. This is a cash bursary awarded to a St Vincents camogie or ladies football player who is embarking on their first year in college. This award is donated by friends ouf our late clubmate Louise to honour her spirit in a way that Lilo would be proud of.
Well done Isabel, and we wish you all the best as you start college in this, the strangest of years to do so. We only wish we could have put on a night to make the award.

I have to send hearty congratulations to Senior Camoige Mentor, David O'Leary. His buddy John Roberts was in touch to tell me about their game of golf in St Margarets just yesterday morning. John says:
"..playing alongside with his younger brother Paul, on the second hole, a tricky Par 3 over water, playing 121 yards on the day, a gentle breeze in his face, with the pin in a devilish position, the old pro took out his trusty wedge – using the slope at the back of green, reminiscent of Tiger Woods at the Master in 2005, David achieved his first ever hole-in-one."
Well done David. We're impressed. And despite what you may think, the "drinks are on me" concept does actually roll over to when the bars re-open.
