A lotto win? This year is already looking up!

Great to have the adults back training. Pods of 15 isn't training like we're used to, but it is a start.  We're already starting to think about when games return. Looks like the lads are in for a good aul Northsider vs Southsider battle.  More on this below. This week we have a lotto win to mention, and a tentative step towards a social event?
As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Welcome back, Adult Teams!

Monday saw the return of training for Adult teams.  By tonight, I think all teams have had a run out. Great to be back! Its early steps but better than pucking on your own in the back garden, wha?
So, I guess you're all wondering what the plan is for games.  Here's what we know at the moment:
Proposed dates for return to games is 7th June. These games will be played behind closed doors, with a small fixed number of people to be present (based off panels and back room staff; No spectators)

For adult football and hurling, the county board have been quick to issue their propsed fixtures; details below:

Adult Football and Hurling
The league is slated to begin Saturday 12 June (Football) with the first round of the Dublin Hurling Leagues to be begin on the 19th . It's happening at the same time as the Intercounty leagues; Unusually this means that teams with representation at county level simply do without their county players - Players need to maintain pods for training purposes so cannot tog out for the club and county. Also, no promotion or relegation will occur at the end of this year's leagues.
Interestingly, both the hurling and football leagues are going to be split into North/South groupings, with the winner of each playing in the final. This should be interesting.
Minor Lads
Minor leagues will start later in June, to allow for the Leaving cert; Hurling on the 27th, Football on the 30th.
Championship is slated for September, with promotion and relegation to occur after the champo.
We are fielding teams in
AFL1 (Senior), AFL4 (Intermediate), AFL7 (Junior 1), and AFL9 (Junior 2), AHL 1 (Senior), AHL4 (Intermediate), AHL5 (Junior 1) and AHL9 (Junior 2).
Not too shabby!
When we receive similar updates from Dublin LGFA and Dublin Camogie, we'll be sure to issue them.

One last time: some general guidance for all

A reminder: The GAA Leaning portal has a good course onCovid-19 return to play guidelines. I recommend anyone who hasn't done it in a year to take it.  It doesn't take that long. The link for the training is here.

A few important points.  These apply to Mentors, Players and Parents/Guardians.
  • Dogs are not permitted on the grounds of the club, nor on the grounds of MIE. Training may be an ideal time to walk the dog, but we have to request you take them out of the club.
  • Sidelines are out we're afraid. Our guidelines allow for non contact training in pods of 15. We request that you drop and leave, or if you want to wait around, please do so in your car. Please do not congregate in the car park with other parents.
  • Players: If you're bringing a bicycle, please park it in provided racks, and keep them off playing surface - no bicycles should be left in MIE.
  • Get in, train, get out. Arriving early would be great in any other time, but for now, it will lead to congregation - please don't arrive too early for your session. This applies to mentors too
  • Mentors: We know you like to plan sessions, but if you are doing so, please continue to observe social distancing.
  • Warm ups: Warm ups should be done in pods, not all together.

Metal Banded Hurleys: Not allowed before U13

I've often found myself asking about a specific rule of hurling, only to be provided with a collection of opinions. The rules are varied, and evolve over time.  So, are we allowed to have hurls with metal bands at all times?  Here's the official line, reminded to us by the Dublin County board this week.  According to a rule agreed in 2020's congress:

"In Underage Hurling up to and including U12 age groups the use of metal bands on hurleys is prohibited unless the metal bands are taped over."

Darkness into light fundraisers - well done!

We congratulate both the Junior Footballers and U14 boys who both undertook fund raisers in aid of Darkness into Light 2021.  The U14 lads braved heavy rain at 5 am at the seafront for their socially distanced 10km walk, and as of time of writing had raised €2,620. I hear they all made it out for hurling training later that day too.  Well done boys!  If you'd still like to donate you can do so here.
The junior footballers completed their 24hour relay, which ran from 5pm last Friday to 5pm on Saturday.  At time of writing, they had received €4,465. Whopper boys! If you want to donate, they are still accepting donations here.

St Vincents Ryder Cup: Save the Date

With restrictions beginning to lift we have provisionally booked a golf outing for this year. This will be held on Friday the 24th of September in Donabate golf club. So put the date in your diary. It will be the same format as last year where two teams, one representing the junior section and the other representing the adults section.  We will flesh out details closer to the time. Here's hoping we can even get together after the event.

Problems with Foireann? Just drop me a note

Most of our initial teething problems with Foireann seem to be thinning out, but if you are having any trouble - drop me a note.  There are a couple of common issues which I'm able to solve pretty easily, so don't suffer in silence! If something isn't working as you expect, send me an e-mail with a description of the problem, and I'll see if I can help.

GAA Newsletter for May

May's GAA newsletter is packed full of great information as always.  Mentors: There's a great section on the "Ready to Play" initiative.  This deals with injury avoidance at this unique time: Return to training after an extended period of no training. Get the newsletter here.

20x20 Showing some positive results

The 20x20 campaign concluded at the end of 2020.  If you remember, the aim was to ensure that by the end of 2020, 20% of all sports on tv would be women's sports. It was a campaign we followed here and supported whenever we could.  I can't say if they reached their goal, but we did see two important steps towards equality in gaelic sports in recent times:
- Towards the end of last year, the Gaelic Players association and the Womens Gaelic Players association voted to merge into a single players association.
- Just this week, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media announced that public funding for female inter-county players will increase to €2.4 million overall; bringing funding for female inter-county players in line with their male counterparts.
The latter announcement is a clear statement from government which we welcome. If ever there was a statement of "Effort is equal" this is it.
A statement from the GPA can be read here.

It's Membership Renewal Time

With return to play, and even dates for games, we need to ensure everyone is registered with the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Assocation; In order to do this, we need all memberships in!  You can renew your membership at this link.
Thank you to all who have renewed to date.  We've seen a good uptick in people sorting memberships since we've returned.
