Thanks for bearing with me while I took a break. The break was only 8 days, but it straddled 2 Wednesdays, which is my preferred day to write the club notes. This weekend sees the first round of the Senior Hurling Championship; The Senior Dubs are in an all-Ireland semi-final, and our juveniles have been on the road. We've also news of improved illumination. What's all that about? I guess you'll have to read on! |

| | Juveniles hitting the road or welcoming travelling teams |
| We've had a number of comings and goings for the juvenile teams over the last few weeks. Well done to our summer hurlers who had their trip down to Portlaoise GAA |
| | Meanwhile, the U13s welcomed a team from Na Piarsaigh in Limerick, who were up to see their county heroes playing in Croke park. |
| | ...and also, a team from the Eoghan Ruadh Hurling club or Dungannon, who were down to watch Tyrone |
| | And it doesn't finish there - The U12 Girls took a trip to Rockwell Rovers GAA in Tipperary, which even got a write-up in Tipperary Live |
| | Do you use the Gym? Time to renew your fob |
| The yearly gym membership/ fob fee is just €25 and all funds go back into the gym upkeep and upgrading. Want to know what it is used for? Look no further: The yearly upgrade of the club gym is completed The gym has been painted, deep cleaned and has some new additional equipment installed including a new power rack, plate holder, dumbbell shelves and a rowing machine. It is cleaned and maintained on a volunteer basis to ensure players have access to a high-performance club gym to support our on-pitch ambitions and player conditioning and development. A big thanks to Fay Coughlan for his support in painting the gym, Stephen Glennon, Pedro and Larry Smyth and Eddie Lambe and Crown Paints in Fairview for their support. Also thanks to members of senior football, hurlers and senior camogie teams for helping move equipment around during the work. So now you know. If you use the gym, please update your gym membership here. |
| And then, there was light. |
| Great news on the illumination front. The upgrade to the club's floodlights has been completed. |
| | The view from a cherry picker during a test run on Tuesday night. |
| Some interesting facts: The new system consists of arrays of LED lights. These are much more power efficient than those they replaced; They can put out the same level of light that the halogen lights did at 40% of the power. The lights are very configurable - An can be dimmed to 40%, 70% or 100% - Allowing for further power savings. This is good for the planet, and good for our energy costs. We also have control over each lighting pole separately, so, for example, can light half of a pitch if this is all that is necessary. All areas are under separate control; and all have been upgraded. PNU1, The Skill Zone, PNU2, and playing areas 1 and two (Behind the PNU2 dugouts, and behind the PNU2 goals) all now have fantastic, separately controlled illumination. |
| | This has been coupled with some additional work done on the grass areas. Folks. I walked PNU1 during the test run of the lights the other night, and I can honestly say it is in the best condition I've ever seen it. The goal-keeping areas have been re-sodded, and the pitch has healthy growth. It's all set for championship season. And thats' not all. I know that the training area behind PNU2 wasn't everyone's favourite. It was often a bit rocky, and a bit uneven; It's had ongoing work and is now a fantastic 45m x 45m, fully illuminated, and levelled, fertilized, grass area, complete with a set of goals; It's now an asset that any team would be glad to be training or warming up on. |
| | Leagues are just about done |
| I might rue that headline, but as far as I can tell, the leagues are almost done and dusted. Here's how recent games panned out: Adult Football Tonight saw our Intermediate footballers play St Marks in their final game of AFL4. This ended in defeat (St Marks: 1-12, Vins: 1-7),; we've finished 4th from the bottom in AFL4. Our AFL7 Team had a win over Na Fianna. There's 1 game still to be played by some opposition, but it looks unlikely to change the final standings; We've finished a respectable 4th (of 16) in AFL7 AFL9 lost last week to Erin's Isle, and have 1 game left to be played Tomorrow evening, 13th of July (well, the notes are late this week, so it may be today from your perspective!). We're currently sitting 5th there. Our Senior Footballers, AFL1 lost to Kilmacud; There are 2 games still to play in AFL1, but unfortunately, we're sitting at the bottom of that table. Adult Hurling Our AHL1 hurlers lost their last game against St Brigids, but we finished 3rd in AHL1; Not a bad outcome. Our Intermediate, AHL4 team had a good win over Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels. With just one loss in the campaign, we finished second and have secured promotion to AHL3 for next year. Our Junior A (AHL6) suffered a big defeat to St Sylvester's. We've finished bottom of that table, which I guess means relegation to AHL7 for next year. Our Junior B (AHL8) drew with Whitehall. We ended up mid-table. It's been pretty quiet on the Camogie and Ladies Football front; There's a 7s competition going on in the Camogie. The Ladies' football championships have started (more on this below). |

And so we turn to championship.. |
| Hats off to the ladies' footballers, who started their championship on 26 June. They are splitting their championships up: Junior E to Junior J are being played first, with the Senior to Junior D starting in August. With that in mind, only our B team have started, as they are competing in the Junior I competition. They've got off to a great start: Winning 3 games on the trot: Game 1 v O'Dwers. (4-17 to 0-03) Game 2 v St Pat's Donabate (3-13 to 2-2) Game 3 v Round Towers Clondalkin (4-15 to 1-7) The adult hurling championships started this evening, and we're in action this Sunday in our Championship opener against Na Fianna: |
| | This game throws in at 3:00 pm on Sunday. A couple of important points to note: - It is a ticketed game, and the county board are saying tickets should be purchased ahead of the game. You can buy them online at this link.
- Under 16s go free.
- The game will be streamed live on DubsTV, for free.
Lads: Just 'cause it's on a stream doesn't mean you shouldn't head to Parnell Park to support the team. The crowd always lifts a team - so let's get out and support! Is this the only game on this weekend? Not at all - but our Fixtures page is showing quite a sparse weekend. I've no doubt that the Junior Hurlers would also welcome some support. They open their Hurling Championship this weekend when they head up the road to take on Whitehall Colmcille. That's in Collins Ave at 11:00 am on Sunday morning. |

Stories like this often come out of other clubs, but it was our turn last weekend. I'm sure that (former chairman) Conor "diggers" Dignam was very proud - He took to the field in the AFL9 where he played alongside his two sons, Cormac and Diarmuid in what I believe was their first game for all 3 together. |
| | Memories like this are made to be cherished. Well done to all the diggers from all at St Vincents. |
