Book launch:"Under the Bluest Sky"

The launch of Jimmy Gray's autobiography 'Under The Bluest Sky' will take place on Wednesday 18th May in Na Fianna GAA Club Mobhi Road at 7.30pm.

Spotlight on Minor Ladies Football

Worth a mention: The Minor Ladies team will line out for their final game of the Division 1 league next Monday, 16th May when they take on Lucan Sarsfields. That game is at home, and throws in at 7:30pm. We're currently second in the table with 5 wins from 6.  The league is already won for Ballyboden who are out of sight (21 points, 7 wins from 7), but as I read it, win or lose, we cannot be further caught, and will finish in second place. Not bad for a club who are considered to be the new kids on the ladies football block, wha?

Random shout out 2 of 3: Open interviews for homecare assistants.

Local homecare service provider Northside Homecare were in touch to ask us to promote their upcoming recruitment open day event (for walk in interviews) which takes place next Tuesday 17th May 2022 to attract and recruit health care assistants across the Dublin 17, Dublin 13, Dublin 5, Howth, Sutton and surrounding areas.

They state:

"We are currently considering applications for Health Care Assistants who are living and are currently based in the Dublin 17, Dublin 13, Dublin 5, Howth and Sutton areas.

Successful candidates will be required to complete the QQI FETAC Level 5 Care Skills and Care of the Older Person modules. There is no cost for the required training to the candidate, once they are successful through our recruitment and selection process.

Garda Vetting and references are required.

Our clients are based in the Dublin 17, Dublin 13, Dublin 5, Howth and Sutton areas, so it would be important for any applicants to be living in the same areas."

They will be holding a walk-in recruitment open day on the 17th May 2022 from 9am – 5pm. The venue is St. Josephs Resource Centre, Greencastle Road, D17EA31.

The GAA National Club Draw - Tickets at the bar

The GAA run a national club draw each year.  It's an interesting fund raiser for the club.  Here's why:
  1. Tickets are just €10.
  2. The prizes are good! The top prize is a car.
  3. All money raised by the sale of tickets remains with the club.
  4. There's also prizes on offer for the club too.
Tickets are available in the club bar; But we recognise that some people cannot get up to the club bar, so we've devised a plan for those who'd like to purchase a ticket online:
For those who want to - you can purchase a ticket online here.
When you make a purchase, we'll fill out a physical ticket on your behalf and enter it into the draw.
We'll keep your stub for safe keeping in the club office.

Summer Disco!

A reminder that the ladies football section are running a summer disco in the club main hall with DJ Phil Cawley on Saturday May 28th.  Tickets are just €15.

Each time I've mentioned this, someone has surpised me with a question over the weekend.  Last weekend's question was if this was a school disco for children or an evening for Adults.  So for the avoidance of doubt: This is an adults event, (but some adults may well be reliving their youth!)

Tickets are now on sale at https://vins.ie/disco. All proceeds are going to fund our ladies football section.

Well done, Senior Camogie

By a collection of fixture clashes, I've missed all of the Senior Camogie teams matches this season.  My apologies to all.  Luckily, I managed to get out for the final game of the league campaign and was treated to a cracking game. The senior Camogie team are going well; and it was all on display last night: razor sharp pickups, pinpoint accuracy on the catching, and dogged fighting in "dirty ball" scenarios meant the spectators were treated to an entertaining encounter versus Na Fianna in Mobhi Road.
Winning convincingly on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-5, with a record of 7 wins from 7 sees us take the "Go Ahead Senior 1 Cup", or as we like to call it, the Dublin Senior 1 Camogie League. Well done to the players and backroom staff; a well deserved title win.

Modesty abounded last night. There was no whoops or hollars, so yours truly didn't manage to get a good group shot. You'll have to make do with a snap of the team prior to getting back on for the second half.

(not so) Random shout out 3 of 3: Wanna be a steward in Parnell Park?

The county board have put out a call for new stewards for games in Parnell Park.  They say:
"We are fortunate to have a cohort of willing voluntary stewards that help maintain a safe and enjoyable matchday experience for our patrons in Parnell Park.
However, the number of stewards has declined in recent years and the County Committee are now recruiting stewards to assist on matchdays. All stewarding will be internal. Individuals must be over 18 years of age, be effective communicators and will form part of the matchday safety team. They will support the Event Controller to prepare for and deliver events in Parnell Park in a safe and controlled manner. Training is a legal requirement and will be provided. Stewards must also be vetted.
"

If you'd like to be part of the stewarding team, please drop a mail to our club secretary, Anne Harrington, who will put your name forward.

Inter-County Roundup

Congratulations to James Brady and Paul Reynolds-Hand who lined out this evening for Dublin in the Leinster Minor Semi-Final. Dublin won by 2-13 to 2-04 against Offaly to book themselves a place in the Leinster Final. This game is against Kildare next Wednesday and will take place in Portlaoise.
Hard luck to Niamh Hetherton, who played in round two of the Leinster SFC when Dublin met Meath in a historic encounter in Parnell park last weekend. Dublin lost out by a single point - final score Dublin 0-10, Meath 1-8.
Congratulations Tessa Lambe who played for the Dublin U16s in their Leinster final encounter, also against Meath. The U16s had a good win (3-9 to 2-6) which sees them through to the All-Ireland semi finals.
Well done to Muireann Kelliher and Aisling Maher who played in the Dublin Camogie Leinster semi-final encounter v Westmeath last weekend (Dublin 1-15, Westmeath 0-04); Next step is a Leinster final.

Mentors: Am I missing anyone?  if one of your players is lining out at county, drop me a mail, and I'll make sure to give them a shout out.

This weekend's action

Another busy weekend, with a surprising time for an AHL1 game too. Inter 1 and Inter 2 camogie play tomorrow (Thursday), while the Junior B Hurling team are the sole game on Friday night (v Maurs, 7pm, PNU2)

Saturday sees the senior hurlers take on Ballinteer St John on PNU1 at Midday.  Midday ? Yep you heard that right.  One presumes this is to allow plenty of time for people to get to Parnell Park to catch Dublin v Kilkenny.  Dublin v Kilkenny in Parnell park is an encounter to savour.  But enough about that. You'll all head to the our game in PNU1 at midday, right?

A quick look over the fixtures page, and you'll see that quite a few of our weekend games are away, but if you're looking for an early game on Sunday before heading to Croke Park, the U17s take on Ballymun Kickhams at 11:30 on PNU2.
