All Eyes on the replay

And so, we're back to focusing on the All-Ireland Football Finals this weekend. The men are in the big replay on Saturday, and the Ladies take on Galway on Sunday. That's some weekend of football.
The big push is on for the All-Club Event on the 29th Of September.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Cúl Community- All-Club Event: 29 September

We're having a big all-club event on Sunday 29th September (here's a Facebook event link). It consists of a sponsored Hurling, Football and Camogie relay around the parishes of Marino and Fairview, a BBQ, and entertainment. We hope everyone in the club will get behind this initiative. Full details on its aims are on a dedicated page on the club website. We look forward to a great day.
Mentors: If you wish to add images to your whatsapp messages etc, they are available here
Parents: We need marshalls, help and participation on the day!
Players: This is our big club event, it will be great fun and gives you a chance to show your pride in your club.
There's some costs associated with running this day. If your company has a sponsorship or corporate and social responsibility fund, perhaps you could consider a modest sponsorship? Get in touch if you can.

This week's Lotto

The Lotto Draw did not take place yet this week. It was overshadowed by a certain All-ireland Final Replay ticket draw. Lotto will take place this Thursday. I'll make sure both this and next week results are available in next week's mail.
Have you ever considered playing our lotto? Next week's jackpot is €4,450. You can enter online here

Speaking of Replays

The draw for replay tickets took place last Monday. Congratulations to all who got a ticket. Commiserations to the rest who didn't have any luck. Interest in the replay was significantly up on interest for the first game, so there were a lot more disappointed people this time around. Sorry folks.
The good news is that we are screening the replay live on the big screen in the hall on Saturday evening.  Like last time there wil be:
  • face painting for the children in sky blue and navy
  • Tuck shop goodies for the kids
  • Bar open for the adults.
The bar will be open at 4pm, Throw-in is at 6pm. Tell your friends you're coming by marking yourself as coming on the facebook event.

We need to talk about parking

Foiks, we have a great, newly surfaced car park in PNU. It's really well marked, and the vast majority of our members respect each other and our neighbours in the surrounding areas. We ask all members to follow some simple rules:
  • Hatched areas should not be parked in. The hatching areas are to allow ambulance acess to PNU1 and PNU2. It may seem like a handy parking spot, but in the event of an emergency, a car parked on the hatched area could impede access.
  • MIE car park is never available to St Vincents. The MIE pitch is made avialable through a generous agreement with the Institute. Key to this agreement is that the car park is is for staff and pupils of the institute only. MIE regularly host exams at the weekends, and pupils need to be able to park in order to get to exams.
  • Please avoid parking in the surrounding areas of Charlemont and Casino Park. These areas are already congested, and extra traffic at the weekends can be frustrating to our neighbours.
We endeavour to be integral to our surrounding communities, and key to this is respecting their wishes.

A proud day for the Camogie Section

Last Saturday saw the awarding of the inaugral Louise Lynch Memorial Bursary. The evening began with the Senior 1 Camogie team taking on local rivals Na Fianna, which they won in style on a scoreline of 1:16 to 0:04. The Bursary award itself took place afterwards in the club bar, with members of the Lynch family present. It was emotional, sad, happy, proud and fun all bundled together. We're delighted to say that Rachel Dunne, who plays Junior 1 camogie and is entering DCU to study Aviation Management was the deserving recipient. We thank the Lynch family for getting behind this unique initiative, and for coming along on Saturday, the rest of the entrants, and the organising committee for the idea and execution. The event was a great one and being a Camogie section event, ended in a big party, naturally.

Senior Hurlers dumbfound the scoreboard

The senior hurlers had a return to Parnell Park to take part in round 1 of the Senior "A" Hurling Championship against Naomh Fionnbarra. They racked up a massive score, so much so that the scoreboard struggled.  Kevin Nolan's tweet shows an image of the scorboard showing a score of 9:30; in fact, the score was 10:28, but there's no room for double digits for goals!
Final score: Vins 10:28, Finbarrs 1:11.

Upcoming fixtures

I counted 30 fixtures this weekend to look out for, and of course, you can see the full list of games on our fixtures page. Here's my pick:
Juvenile:
Both U15 and U16 boys Squads are in Championship action this weekend. The 16s' have football, while the 15s have Hurling, and all games are away:

The Minor Ladies football team play Fingal Ravens this Friday at 6:30pm in MIE.
The Senior 1 Camogie team continue their championship campaign with a game against Balinteer St. Johns on Sunday at 10:00 am in Marlay Park.
If you're looking for something closer to home, you could watch the Junior Footballers take on Lucan Sarsfields at 11:00 on Sunday on PNU2 in a Championship game. Similalrly, the Minor Hurling B team are at home to Clanna Gael Fontenoy at 11:00 am on Sunday on PNU1.

Also: I hear there's a perfect storm of all 4 Adult Camogie Squads having home games on the 22nd. "Super Camogie Sunday" will be back. Watch this space...

And finally..

Amazing what a clean set of jerseys can do!  The Junior Hurlers received new jerseys thanks to the support of Bank of Ireland. The jerseys were officially handed over by Tom Moran, BOI branch manager for Marino, before their championship quarter final. They played agains Civil Service, winning on a scoreline of 1:20 to 0:11.
