Your Club Update
June 11, 2020

FINALLY

Normally, I try to get the club notes out on a Wednesday. Movement from HQ meant I had some stuff to get together yesterday. But I can now announce that the GAA have published their "Safe Return to Play" guidelines. Hurrah!
Now, before we all climb into one car and head down to the club for some close-contact ball work we need to stress: This is a road map, with lots of new procedures in place.  It'll be training, but not as you know it. More on this below.
Please note all club activities remain off. The club is closed until June 29, and opens under strict controls. For now, keep an eye on our social channels Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Covid-19 Safe Return to Play

Safe return to play guidelines have been issued by the GAA. They are detailed, and outline a set of processes which much be followed to get us initally back training, and eventually back to playing games.
To help you navigate this, we've set up a dedicated page on the club website. All players, mentors and parents are advised to read the GAA document in full. Our dedicated page includes links to presentations to help you digest the information.  Here's some of the things that you'll need to know:
  1.  The first date we can begin training is June 29. A fuller proposed timetable is in the GAA document, but it is all contingent on government advice in the coming weeks.
  2. The association is launching some online awareness videos which will need to be taken by all mentors, players and parents/guardians.
  3. Training will be confined to outdoor facilities.  All indoor facilities will remain closed inititially.
  4. Training will be in small groups, socially distanced by 2 meters and non contact
  5. A full track and trace system will be in place. This means: every player and mentor will be required to fill out a medical questionnaire, include taking temperatue (at home) on the the day of training, and submit this to their team's Covid-19 represntative. This has to be done for each and every training session
  6. Training sessions will be shorter to allow for social distancing during changeover. The approach is "Get In, Train, Get Out!"
While this sounds onerous, we're in this together. With strict application of the procedures, we can hope to be back to "normal" sooner.
Please note that the guidelines acknowledge that everyone is a volunteer, and should make their own decisions around risk assessment. If you feel for any reason that this approach is not safe, there is no pressure for you to return; This advice applies to players, mentors and parents/guardians.
I'm sure you may have questions. Head over to our Covid-19 Resources page which we hope will answer many of them.
Folks: There's a lot to take in, so I may lbe following up with dedicated e-mails which are specifically about safe return to play. It's important that the message gets through to every player, mentor and parent/guardian; mentors: can you please start pointing parents/guardians at the dedicated page.

Mentors: National Coaching Survey

A national survey of coaching is being carried out jointly by the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association. The survey is to help shape the future development of Gaelic games. From HQ: "The aim of the survey is to get to know more about coaches involvement, their role, experiences and how they envisage their coaching future. The form can be accessed through the link below. If you have any queries about the survey, you can email gamesdevelopment@gaa.ie."
This is a good opportunity to have your input - please fill out the survey here. For information on it's importance, you can watch a video from Uachtarán GAA, John Horan.

Continuing to help those in our community

Our volunteer team continue to actively help a number of people on a regular basis at this point. Individual volunteers have been assigned to those who have seeked help to give them a sense of security and familiarity.
If you or a family member is in need of assistance, simply call or text Aoife Drumgoole on 087 947 6626 and she will co-ordinate one of the volunteer team to respond.

PNU1: STAY OFF THE GRASS!

PNU1 goalmouths are knitting nicely, and thanks to the Tuesday crew and other volunteers who continue to water the goalmouths. The rest of the pitch is looking a little yellow, as the good weather means not enough rain. We had a bit today. Let's hope PNU1 drank deep.  Even with opening in sight, it doesn't change the fact that our facilities are still closed under government instruction.

Many thanks to all the families who have joined our virtual mini-leagues sessions.
Next Saturday will see another virtual mini-leagues. The session will be run 11:00am. Would you child like to take part? Simply sign up here. (If you signed up already there's no need to do it again). The team will follow up with an email with details on how to install Microsoft Teams and join the meeting. We hope to have a good crowd taking part.
For a view of the kinds of activities, our GPO Emma has prepared a video.
I was sent this wonerful picture of 6 year old Jessica Sugrue taking part in virtual mini leagues. I think it captures the energy of participation so well. Keep it up Jessica! (thanks to mammy Christina Fahey for the image).

And finally..

A shout out to Lola O'Reilly who's been enthusiastically taking part in Emma and Louises U11/U12 virtual training sessions. The doggo looks a little nonplussed. One can only assume he's more of a soccer fan.
