Club Notes, 11 August 2021

The business end of the inter-county championship

Still pretty quiet this week; the number of fixtures are low with a number of age groups on short summer breaks. Amazing to see we're at the semi-final stages of the inter-county all-ireland campaign, with the boys in blue aiming for a 7th in a row.
A few bits and pieces to get through this week, including details of the bar re-opening. Thanks for stopping by!

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto draw 9 August, 2021.  The Jackpot was €2,500.  There was no Jackpot winner and the weekly winner of €100 was Germaine Noonan.  Nice one Germaine. She's a regular reader! (You can buy me a pint from your winnings!)

Senior Roundup

The senior footballers had a good 3-10 to 1-10 win over St Maurs away in Rush last Saturday evening. That finishes off the league were we finished mid-table. Na Fianna topped the table there and now go on to play Kilmacud Crokes in the AFL1 final.
Senior Hurlers go up against St Brigids this Friday at 6:30pm, that one is at home. (Facebook Event)

Meanwhile, the Senior Camogie team come to the conclusion of their Division 1 campaign this weekend where they take on Ballyboden St Endas in the Senior 1 decider (Facebook Event). That game throws in at 10:30 am on Sunday morning, away in Ballyboden.

Congratulations, Adult Ladies footballers

Hot off the press, news is reaching me of a convincing win for the Adult Ladies Football team this evening. They've just defeated Thomas Davis in their Shield Semi-Final, putting them through to a shield final. Great going for their first year out.  Well done girls.

🚨The St Vincents Bar Re-opens! 🚨

A mamoth task has been taken on by club treasurer, Paul Tancred, in arranging for a full top-to-toe cleaning of the bar, and recruiting of bar staff, and putting covid procedures in place. I'm delighted to be able to say that the club bar re-opens tomorrow, Thursday 12th August.
Initial opening hours are Thursday to Sunday, 7pm to closing. Bar will remain closed Monday to Wednesday, but will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

SEE YIS IN VINNIES!

Restoration of the club committee room

A slow leak in the bathrooms during covid closure caused damage to the woodwork, carpets and wallpaper in the club comittee room. This room had not had any work done to it since it was opened and was in need of some tlc.

Luckily, we have a number of concerned members who stepped in to make repairs.
A major clean out was required, and the room was given time to dry.

The painting wallpapering and restoration of the woodwork was completed brilliantly by Eddie Lambe. New ceiling tiles completed by Mark L’Estrange and Cillian O’Neill. Bob Hand supplied and fitted new carpet tiles and all new LED lighting . All orginal pictures of club founders and historic moments restored.

The effort was spearheaded by Sean L'Estrange.

The Committee room is now ready for those important club executive and committee meetings when reopening of indoor club facilities commences.

Great work!  I think you'll agree the results speak for themselves.

Camogie Manager Required - Junior 3

The Junior 3 Camogie team are still in need of a manager.
Think you can help? Drop a mail to the adult camogie director, Clodagh Carroll.

Here: Will you tell your friends about this newsletter?

I had a small number of people get in touch asking me if the club had an allocation for the All-Ireland Semi Final. They were surprised when I told them that I made an announcement via the club mailing list last week, and the draw was done and dusted. I can understand people's frustration here, but we were expliciltly asked over the last number of weeks to not push tickets on general social media channels as the supply is so constrained.
The club mailing list is used for: this newsletter, occasional RIP notices and other announcements such as ticket availabiltiy. Of course, those of you reading this in their email are already on the list; but you may want to infom other members. The best place for important club announcements is by subscribing to our newsletter.  Simply visit the club website, and fill out the form marked "Newsletter".  Please and thanks!

Get Well Soon, Pat

When dropping the youn'fella to training last night, I noticed once of the mentors in a deck chair, with a cast on his leg. News reached me today that it was Pat Boland, one of the hurling coaches with the U15 team who, in the words of the little birdy who told me, "sustained an injury while pucking around in a ball alley in deepest Clare that necessitated surgery and will keep him off the sideline for a while …"
Who knew re-living the glories of one's youth could be so dangerous?
We wish you a speedy recovery, Pat.
