Club Notes, 10th November 2021

It doesn't get more..

I know the term "business end of the championship" gets bandied around a lot, not least by myself, but I don't think it gets more "business end" than having 3 teams contesting championship finals in one weekend.  Not to mention another team in a semi, another with a final to look forward to, and the "new kids on the champo block", U-twenty-somethings, all in action. A minor hurling thriller last weekend too.

As always, keep an eye on social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook)
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Lotto

Lotto Draw 8  November 2021. Jackpot was €4,300.  Numbers drawn were

6, 2, 16, 14
There was no Jackpoint winner.  Weekly winner of €100 was Conor Dignam. Yep, everyone who enters, gets and entry ok? Just leave it.  Next week's jackpot will be €4,450.  Wowsers. The kind of thing you could get for that amount.  How about the ultimate chavmobile? Or maybe you're more of a classic nordic collectible kind of person?  Look.  A quick entry and next week you could be planning your next wheels.

AGM Reminder

Important notice regarding the AGM.  I already put this out earlier, but maybe you didn't catch it.  So, once more for the people at the back
"At last night's executive committee meeting, it was agreed that due to rising Covid-19 numbers, it would be prudent to host this years AGM online
Last year proved to be very successful, and was run through Google Meets.
The AGM will be held 18th November 2021 beginning at 8pm sharp. Attendance is open to all members, but we require you to register your intention to attend.
Access will be granted to the online meeting for all those members who register. In addition, soft copies of all reports will be made for everyone who registers a couple of days prior to the AGM.
For members who do not wish to attend the AGM, but still want to read the reports, copies of all reports will be available for inspection from the club office.
"
So, if you want to come along to the online AGM, register here.

CCC2 Ref Courses Coming Up

There's still time to get in on the Parnell Park Referee's course. I'm told you can rack up a nice few quid each weekend by reffing a few games! From the county board:
"A second Level 3 course will be held in Parnell Park over three evenings on Monday 15th, Thursday 18th and Monday 22nd November"
If you'd be interested in becoming a CCC2 referee, please drop our club secretary, Anne Harrington a mail and she'll get you put on the list.

Zumba's gone

I'm afraid the Zumba class is no more. It's been a struggle to get back up and running and the momentum just isn't there. Apologies to those who were showing up. Our thanks to Deb McMorrow who brough the idea to the club, and we wish her all the best wherever she takes it next!

Adult Players - Got a few minutes for a study survey?

We had a request in from two students in DCU. As part of their final year in Athletic Therapy and Training, they are undertaking a reearch project.  They say:
"Ryan Alexander here and I am a final year student in Athletic Therapy and Training in DCU and senior footballer with Naomh Barrog. I’m currently undertaking my final year research project and my colleague Alannah Harford and I are investigating the relationship between sleep and injury in Male and Female Gaelic Football, Camogie and Hurling.
This is an area that is virtually untouched and has not been investigated before. This study will help massively and allow us to understand more about how we can prevent injuries in the future!
We’re looking to get as many participants as possible to perform a stronger study for better results for the GAA community.
We’re asking a favour of each club in Dublin and asking can this study be sent to all adult players (male and female)".
Emphasis, my own, folks. Lads and Ladies: Do the guy a solid and fill it out will ya? They promise me it will take 10 minutes maximum. Acccess the survey here.

November Newsletter from HQ

The association's excellent monthly newsletter is now available. Always some nuggets in here. You can read it from the GAA Website. This edition covers the National Commemorative Féile in Thurles, so will be of interest to our U15 squad.

Champo Watch

So, like I mentioned above, 3 finals this weekend. So, let's dig straight in.

Adult Camogie

The U20 play their second game of the championship, taking on Faughs/Celtic at home this Sunday, 14th November at 10:30 am, on PNU2. 10:30 on a Sunday is the Senior Camogie regular slot, so those of you who normally support the Camogie have no excuse!
The U18 Camogie championship is yet to get underway.  First game is next Tuesday, 16 November at 7:30pm.  It's at home against Naomh Jude.

Adult Hurling
Our Junior B contest the Junior G Hurling Final when they take on St Monicas at 2:30pm this Sunday, 14th on PNU1. I seem to remember a hotly contested encounter last year, so this should be a good one!
The U21s are in A Hurling Championship, but this weekend is a football one, so their next game is on Saturday 20th, when they play Ballinteer St John at home at 2:30.

Adult Football
The U21 Footballers open their campaign this weekend.  They take on Na Fianna.  This is on Saturday, 13th at 2:30pm and will be on Ard Scoil Rís.

Minor Football
The Minor A footballers are in the Minor A championship final.  Thats on this Sunday, 14th at 11:00 against Kilmacud Crokes. That's been played in Balgriffin. The minor team are going really well, being in both the football and hurling A finals.  Ones to watch for sure!

Minor Hurling
I missed last week's minor Hurling championship semi final, as I was over in Somerton watching the U15 Divsion 1 Féile Final (more on this below). By all accounts it was a cracker.  They were up against Ballyboden, and at the end of full time, the sides couldn't be separated. Extra time ensued, and the lads found another gear. The final score was 1-22 to 0-18, seeing us through to the Minor A hurling final. By my reckoning, the opposition will be Raheny, next weekend.  Keep an eye, and I'll let you know when I do. (Actually, just read next weeks notes!)
The Minor B lads ended their championship campaign last week when they were beaten by just 2 points by Clanna Gael Fontenoy. (2-8 to 2-10).
A poignant moment prior to the game where they observed a minute's silence to remember Des "Snitchy" Ferguson who passed away last week. Des's grandson, Eoin was playing for us in that game. Our thanks to Clanna Gael for for helping us mark Snitchy's passing.

Juvenile Championships
The U16A Hurlers played Judes in the knockout stages of the Hurling A shield. Unforunately, they were beaten on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-18, and this is the end of their Hurling for this year.
But, it ain't all doom and gloom: The U16A Footballers contest the U16 B Football Semi Final. This is away to St Judes at 2:30pm on this Saturday (13th)

The U15A lads were narrowly defeated (1-11 to 2-6) against Castleknock in the Division 1 Féile Final. There really wasn't much between the two teams, but we know this is gonna sting, having been defeated by Castleknock in the Division 1 Hurling final just last week. Making it to Division 1 Féile Finals in both codes is an amazing achievement. The lads and mentors should be proud. We look forward to their exploits at under 16. The county board have a write up on the game here.

The U15 Camogie girls are in Division 2 Championship Final; Get yourselves down to PNU2 at 2:15 on Saturday when they take on Clontarf.

OK, Week 10 of  Championship season, and while the list is getting shorter, the titles of the games are getting bigger! Make sure you get out on the weekend and get behind our boys and girls! 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

If you're looking for where and when a game is on remember, fixtures are published on the club website.

And finally..

While six All-Irelands in a row was questioned by many as the end of Gaelic football, spare a thought for those who play ladies gaelic in Waterford. Ah here. Time to split Ballymacarbry in two.  And don't get me started on Tomas McCarthy's definition of "hard fought"
