Club Notes, 10th February 2021

Twenty one. Keys to the gaf.

HELLO...Hello...hello. ECHO...Echo..echo. Oh.  You're there are you? Lovely to say hello again. Welcome to 2021. I've refrained from re-starting the club notes throughout January as alas there wasn't a lot to talk about, what with the aul pandemic and closed club and whatnot. But, a few things have started stirring, so best to fill you all in.  Even the social channels (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) have been quiet, but here's hoping we'll have more to talk about soon.
if you want something included in the club notes, all you have to do is drop me a mail at pro@stvincentsgaa.ie.

Mentors: Upcoming Coaching Talks

Two free online talks for mentors have been arranged. The first is tomorrow, Thursday 8th at 8pm, where Liam Moggan "The Coaches Coach" will give a talk entitled "Coach the person, not the sport". Liam is well known in coaching circles, having worked with the GAA, Sport Ireland, the Irish Olympic Equestrian team, to name but a few. A native of Tuam, Liam also taught at Ard Scoil Rís, so knows the Vincents set up well.  This talk will be held over Google Meet, and pre-registration is essential. Pre register here

The second talk will take place on Thursday 25th February, also at 8pm. This will be by Gerard O'Connor and called "Say what you mean, mean what you say". Gerard O'Connor is director of coaching for Dublin GAA and also tutors with Sport Ireland, as well as the GAA. Gerard is also the developer of the Dublin GAA coaching handbook "Give Us A Game", which can be purchased here.
This talk will also be held online. Pre-registration is at the same link.

History in the making: Our first adult ladies football team

I was delighted to be able to announce this on social media. 2021 is the year we're fielding our first adult ladies team. The orignal release said it well enough, so I reproduce it here:

We are pleased to announce that 2021 will be the year in which St Vincents GAA established it's first adult ladies gaelic football team.
Speaking on this occasion, Chairman Conor Dignam said
"We introduced ladies football at under 11 and that team has come up through the grades. They are now becoming Naomh Uinsionn's first adult ladies football squad, paving the way for all future Vincents footballers. As a club we're looking forward to our new team competing and adding to the Marino and Vincents tradition of success both on and off the pitch. We're delighted for those who put in the years and will now be making history for the club."
The team will be managed by Robbie Hughes, who previously managed juvenile ladies teams, and Brendan Adamson, who managed and mentored at both juvenile and intermediate levels with our mens teams.
Ladies football director Niamh Adamson is hopeful of encouraging more dual players too: "St Vincents has a very successful camogie section, and we've been working with our camogie colleagues to learn valuable lessons from their successes. Both sections are committed to encouraging dual participation."
The team are actively recruiting, so if you're aged over 18 and have considered playing football, please get in touch at adultladiesfootball@stvincentsgaa.ie

It's Membership Renewal Time

Members please note that it is time for membership renewals. A letter from chairman, Conor Dignam can be downloaded here. If you want to jump straight over to pay your fees, you can go to this link.
Membership rates remain unchanged from last year and are included in the chairman's letter.

Virtual Mini Leagues are back

Virtual mini leagues started back at the end of January.  Short sessions on Saturday mornings for boys and girls aged 4-7. It runs from 10:45 am to 11:15am. All are welcome. Pre-registration is essential, by filling out this form.

Juveniles take on #FitnessFebruary

A great initiative from our GPO, Emma Byrne; It's simple but gets the children back thinking about training:
To take part:

1. Keep a note of any training or exercise you do.
2. Also note when you eat healthy
3. And, make sure you get a good nights sleep!

Parents and Gaurdians:
Each Sunday fill our your child's weekly progress at here.

Points will be awarded based on responses and the leader board published each Monday.  Plenty of people got involved and the first week shows the girls teams are leading the charge.  Lads: You'll have to step up!

Club Grounds Remain Closed

We've put out a number of messages to state that the club grounds are closed, and pitches are unavailable for use, be that even for individual traiing. Whilst the vast majority of members have respected this, a number of people have continued to use the pitches. If you're reading this and thinking
'they don't mean me'
'what harm can I be doing on my own?'
'it's just 20 minutes'
'I'm only doing a light run'
'Sure where else can the dogs have a run around?'

Please, think again. Our grounds remain closed and do so for a number of reasons including government and GAA directives. If you flout this request, think of the message you are sending to all those who have remained respectful to the current situation we find ourselves in.

Also please note that this message also refers to the MIE facility; We have had a number of complaints from MIE that their pitches are being used by St Vincents members.

Newsletter details

This newsletter is sent to over 1000 recipients and is a great way to inform members of club happenings. If you want anything included in the newsletter, drop a mail to pro@stvincentsgaa.ie. Comments and feedback are welcome too.

And finally..

At a recent, (when we were allowed!) visit to my mother she got to asking me about the club. "Whats the name of that club again?" she asked. (To be fair, she's in her 80s). "St Vincents" I explained.
"Let me show you something" she said and off she trotted up the stairs, returning with a trophy.

On closer inspection....

Congratulations Ruthie Daly. Winning in Vincents long before I ever saw the inside of the club!
